And most of these bills were signed into law by Governor Stitt. Most of them actually....
As
always we look at Trump's positions on the issues and grade the votes
accordingly. Trump was always tough on crime but willing to give a hand
up once the criminal paid his debt to society. We did include two 2nd Amendment bills that were scrubbed from the House version, we
thought that Trump wouldn't have thought they were bad law whereas we
thought they were, but we had a lot more bills to use in scoring the House so these two bills were left in the Senate version. The bills limited the places where Open Carry could
be done and extended rights to government employees that were restricted
to taxpayers. Both of these bills were pushed by Dollar Don's OK2A group despite the fact that they restricted the 2nd Amendment.
2021 Trump Index bills
HB 1647 This is the bill that attempted to get the non profit soft on crime pre trial release programs on the same level playing ground as the bail bondsmen have to work with. If a non profit wants to help turn thugs loose upon society then they need to be accountable and track each criminal they help turn loose and report if they show up for court or commit another crime while out on their supervision. The total cost to the defendant being supervised is also required to be reported along with how much has been paid. A Yes vote is a correct vote. The House and Senate played politics and the bill didn't get through a conference committee but it is alive for next year.
HB 1849
Sales Tax Exemptions for PTA and school support organizations. While
we like the idea of less tax being paid, these groups need to feel the
pain of taxes like the rest of us. Stitt did a great job and vetoed the
bill after it passed.
HB 2365
Diversity program for vendors/suppliers. Not a good idea. Let the
cream rise to the top no matter their race, gender, or anything that
makes them different. It was passed into law.
HB 2367
kids sign rental contract. This stupid law was signed by Stitt after
passing and it allows sixteen year olds to sign rental contracts if DHS
decides they are homeless or a victim of abuse. Meanwhile the parents
will be stuck with the bill for everything. Yeah, there are kids that
get abused but at 16 you ought to know how to stay out of the line of
fire and if a parent is abusing a kid why in the hell are they not in
jail or being watched closely? This is a disaster in the making,
putting kids into apartments unsupervised and at taxpayer expense. How
about the kid learns to behave and keep their mouths shut? Might come
in handy dealing with other authority figures later in life. And yet
Stitt signed this bill into law anyway.
HB 2396 Sex Trafficking education. This is corporate welfare for non profits that do sex trafficking programs. It forces colleges to offer three courses to freshmen students. This idiotic bill was signed by the governor after passing into law.
HB 2645 Anti 2nd Amendment Bill This bill made it illegal to carry firearms into public events that have an eight foot tall metal type fence, with security, and metal detectors. Public events without these security measures are to allow concealed carry. This restricts the 2nd Amendment just because there are metal detectors at the gates. Most of these events will have vendors and workers coming and going, all of which can easily conceal weapons inside vehicles or cargo that aren't passing through metal detectors. Even then, a terrorist event or simply a man with a knife or gun that was tossed over the fence can negate the security theater going on at the entrances. And it provides another reason to search and scan law abiding citizens for no valid reason. It was passed into law and signed by Stitt. The Oklahoma 2nd Amendment Association pushed this bill even though it restricted gun rights in Oklahoma.
SB 273
Liens on personal property. This bill forces people that assist others
in filing liens on properties to register with the state and pay a
$50.00 annual fee. Lien notices happen a lot for many reasons, part of a
construction contract or financing, part of a lawsuit for unpaid labor
and materials, and many other reasons. There is no need to expand
government and register people for this crap. This bill was signed
into law by Stitt.
SB
320 releases criminals for medical reasons. Another soft on crime
law that allows the release of a criminal simply because he is unable to
perform two or more daily activities on their own. What exactly is
this covering? Can't wipe his a.... Tom McCay and he gets one point?
Has trouble taking a shower on his own? No, let them rot in a cell and
have the other inmates taking care of them if needed. Might be a lot
fewer gang bangers if they have to wipe shitty McCays while locked up in
prison. Or if someone is "medically frail" and might catch a disease
in prison. And, so what? Ought they not think about that before
breaking they law so many times they wind up in prison? And wouldn't
you know it, Stitt signed this into law.
SB 608 is another Oklahoma film credit bill that gives tax credits to those filming in the state. A No vote is a correct vote but Stitt didn't thinks so and he signed it into law.
SB 644 Anti 2nd Amendment Employee Carry The problem with this bill is that it expanded rights to municipal employees and left private employees without these rights. The bill allowed Municipalities to allow the carrying of firearms, sounds like a step in the right direction but it created two classes of citizens; those working for a city government and those privately employed. That is a bad idea. The bill appeared to get stuck in conference committee after the Senate made changes to the law and it is sitting there for the next session to pick up again if the next session is a continuation of this session or to restart if that is not the case.
SB838 is a bad bill that sets an even worse precedent. Fire, police, and emergency medical services are among the most basic functions of a municipal government and are already funded through sales taxes. But municipal lobbyists want to free up those sales taxes for pet projects and need a new revenue stream in order to do that. SB838 will give it to them, allowing cities and towns to raise property taxes by up to 5 mills on top of county property taxes. Property tax increases don't just harm homeowners and business owners: they harm renters when those expenses are passed on to them. A No vote is correct but again Stitt signed this puppy into law.
