The Women in Black Now are Sporting Two Black Eyes
Ah, brings to mind the old misogynistic joke, "what do you tell a woman with two black eyes"?
Nothing, you already told her twice. Andrew Dice Clay would be proud.
And relax, no women were harmed in the making of this newsletter, that pic is from a makeup website for film make up artists. God, you have to explain that for the few stupid ones out there so we don't get ugly emails.
So what is this? One of Rep Kevin McDugle's former wives? Or one of Rep. Josh West's futre wives? (And see the warning above just in case.) Nope, remember the appearance of the Women in Black at the second week of the teacher strike? A line of women attorneys marching into the Capitol, all ready to set things right? Well, it was a photo opp and little else, no one took them seriously, most were insanely ignorant of the process anyway, but they did go on to provide legal work for the teachers including filing a court protest against SQ 799, the referendum on the teacher taxes contained in HB 1010xx.
And in the process earned two black eyes from the Attorney Generals Office after the filing of a blistering opinion in the protest case. It turns out that these "Women in Black" attorneys are exceedingly ignorant of the law and of legislative process. Their main plank of their filing was that the referendum can't be allowed as it impacts another bill that had an emergency clause, the teacher pay raise, the support staff pay raise, or the state employee pay raise. The problem with that is that there is zero basis in law for such a claim, and if there were, SQ 640 and the Oklahoma Constitution would be gutted.
The second black eye was for a legal argument that was even more bizarre. The Women in Black claimed that because Missouri's state constitution had a clause that prohibited referendums on bills that provided for the public schools the Oklahoma Constitution couldn't allow referendums on the teacher tax legislation. Apparently these bobos misread a SCOTUS opinion that discussed a Missouri case and decided that what was good for Missouri was also good for Oklahoma. Methinks they ought to stick to getting drunks back on the street and rapists set free instead of delving into politics and actual legal matters.
