Carol Bush Steps in it Again

If you are liked and respected you can get away with a lot. Then there are the Carol Bush type characters that tend to draw negative attention simply because they aren't respected or liked. Such was the case last week when Bush drew the ire of fellow Republicans for outing the caucus vote totals on the initial straw polls done at the Republican Caucus back at the start of the special session.

The Sooner Tea Party had already outed the totals the Sunday after the straw polls, none of the tax increases drew more than 47 votes and if every Republican voted for the tax increases at least four Democrats would be needed so the straw polls were indicative of House leadership failure as well as an indication that enough conservative Republicans remained to block the increased taxes. But a third party outing the vote totals and having an insider caucus member blab in public about the vote totals are two different things. Several House members voiced their concern and disgust at the breech of good sense and responsibility as well as House leadership giving a reserved but obviously stern statement.

Face it, Leadership is embarrassed and would have preferred that Carol Bush keep her mouth shut about insider details. Bush on the other hand profits from letting the cat out of the bag and weakening leadership despite the two sides having nearly the same raise tax agenda. And this isn't the first time that Bush had stepped in a cow pile, before she had even attended a caucus meeting or vote she was forced to apologize for attacking fellow Republicans and the Republican Caucus in a Tulsa online interview. Despite her attempts to walk the comments back and claim she was quoted out of context the online blog stood by their story. Bush apologized via email to the entire House and in person to her freshman class.

Of course all of this evades the simple fact that with 2018 being an election year, raising taxes isn't going to get enough traction to meet the super majority requirements. Even some of the more liberal Republican House Members like Fetgatter are seeing the danger in supporting legislation and that is after his attempts to lobby the more conservative House Members; that task apparently opened his eyes and now he understands his butt will get thrown out in a primary if he continued to refuse to represent the Republicans that sent him to 23rd and Lincoln.

The outcome of the Special Session is still in doubt but our money is on the House continuing to lack the votes to raise taxes or implement new taxes and the budget cuts occurring as a default outcome. The state has no business taking care of so many people that are able bodied and able to work to pay for their own health insurance and dental needs. There is a lot of fat in the DHS system, some of the centers for the disabled are operating at a fraction of capacity and the Welfare Department can cut back to core public needs and focus on those that truly need assistance. Trump is looking at dialing back WIC and food stamp programs on a massive scale, forcing the leeches back to work, forcing parents to spend their incomes on raising their kids instead of drugs, booze, and cigarettes.

One of the requirements for welfare ought to be a look into the lifestyle of the recipient. If they have a nice car or home, they ought to be required to sell the asset before taking tax dollars in charity. If the kids are illegals, why in the hell are they receiving tax money paid benefits? Same thing on schooling, if the schools can't turn the kid away due to Federal mandates then the state ought to be sending a bill the the feds for the costs of schooling and running down the parents and deporting them and the kids going with the parents. There is a teacher shortage? Sure, because over 51% of Oklahoma City school kids are illegals. Deport them and you have a teacher surplus, more competition for existing teacher jobs, and lower teacher salaries due to the competition. Which is why the teachers unions are pro illegal alien.
