Cornett's True Colors

CORNETT'S TRUE COLORS
From a guest columnist

Mick Cornett didn't take long to show his true liberal colors following the Republican run-off for governor where tried to convince voters he is a conservative. Cornett has endorsed a left-wing Democrat candidate known as "Nikki Nice", who is running against a true conservative candidate Kirk Pankratz for Ward 7 Oklahoma City Council.

Nikki Nice's legal name is Alberta Nicole Swanegan Owens. Nice/Owens has been an on-air radio personality and says she has heard from citizens regarding the needs in Ward 7. She is 38 years old and lives with her mother. Her website shows her focus will be on strengthening relationships with community agencies that provide services to citizens.

Cornett's picture and his statement of support for Nice/Owens is on her mailer, which is apparently being mailed to target predominately white voters who may be persuaded by Cornett's endorsement.

This endorsement is a real slap in the face to Republicans who have nominated a great conservative candidate in this race, Kirk Pankratz, who has lived in Ward 7 for 30 years. His background and experience have prepared him well to serve on the Council, as you can see at this link:

On Facebook a number of Republicans have responded to the mailer with disgust that Cornett is trying to pull votes for the Democrat in this race. Responding in defense of Cornett's endorsement and to questions about whether Cornett really wrote the statements, Mayor David Holt commented on the same post. He said "That is an actual endorsement from former Mayor Cornett. City Council races are nonpartisan and I don't personally know the voter registration of either Ward 7 candidate, nor do I care. "
Do we really have to wonder why the Republican party is in trouble? When we have elected officials like Cornett and Holt who do not seem to care one bit about party principles or the difference in policies that could be made if we support and elect people that believe in smaller government?
