Weaponizing The Courts To Shut Down Political Participation

Laurie Phillips and "daughter" Tiffany Phillips
There's a very disturbing issue brewing up in Tulsa that ought to be monitored by everyone who cares about political free speech.
A few political operatives on the left are weaponizing our criminal courts' powers, to shut down both free speech and open participation in politics. A growing number of men are being served with emergency court orders and threatened with jail and fines if they dare show up at an unspecified list of political and govt. events.
The attorney behind many such actions is a long-time ACLU member, Laurie Phillips.
The former Democrat nominee for US Senator, in 2016, was Mike Workman. He's a long-time Clinton backer. He's now a candidate for leadership on the Oklahoma Democratic Party. He was arrested for showing up at a public meeting of some Democrat women's' group, at a Tulsa public library auditorium.
Mike Workman
He was promptly arrested and put in the county jail. The Tulsa World wrote a slanted & incomplete story, but no one has stated any actual harms or illegal threats made by Workman in the first place. And this isn't the first time they tried to do this to him. He says he's successfully fought 6 such filings and has even won damages from some of the women who pulled this stunt.
Even more stunning, Laurie Philips was Workman's lawyer on one of the wins.... the same attorney that filed the protective order against Workman on behalf of the City Councilor.
Here's what we suspect. The radical socialist wing of the ODP wants to cleanse the party of any Clinton allies. Phillips' “daughter”, Tiffany Phillips, led the Sanders presidential campaign in Oklahoma, back in 2016. That group of activists stayed fairly organized in OKC & Tulsa. They want to control every party office and run things during the 2020 campaign cycle.
Workman was set to run as a candidate for Tulsa County Democrat Party Chairman, last month. But on the day before the convention, he says he was slapped with yet another court order. Mind you, he never had his day in court, yet he was barred from attending the county convention and from running for the county chairmanship. The hearing was then delayed because the plaintiff failed to produce the documents required for her complaint.
So the courts evidently let her refile more restraint time on Workman, thus hindering him from attending more party meetings, in the run up to the Democrat District 1 Convention, next weekend. Workman believes that the whole process is being facilitated to smear him while at the same time blocking him form participation in party governance.
This is what the "Me Too" movement has been corrupted into.
Yes, there is a need to protect people from those who have harmed them and threaten more harm. But in the case of Workman, there is no evidence that we are aware of. The only claim is that he asserts himself in open debate at these events. Some women what us all to believe they need special protections from assertive men, just because they are women.
Well, hello darl'n! You wanna be an equal, in politics? Then expect to be treated as such. Put on your big girl pants and debate the guys. But those who corrupt the courts and strip these men of their civil rights ought to be jailed, disbarred, and kicked out of the American CIVIL LIBERTIES Union.
Paul tay
And we haven't even begun to discuss what this same Laurie Phillips has done to the perennial candidate, Paul Tay. Our guess is that the radical left is using him as a test case to see if they can go after independent and Republican candidates with these same court-order tactics.
Paul Tay has been a perennial candidate for municipal office in Tulsa. He's more of a distraction than a politician, yet he's due the same civil rights that all of us are guaranteed. But Laurie Phillips had him put in jail last week for showing up at a city council meeting. Sure, he's an irritant. But the first amendment wasn't designed to protect polite speech. It is a right to say things that some political enemies find threatening to their careers and agendas.
Then Saturday the pair, Workman and Tay, were prevented from attending the District 1 Democrat convention because both men had the protective orders against them. Mind you that Workman was running for office and was allowed to speak at the convention and neither of the “victims” were present at the convention. Simply because a protective order had been filed the Bernie Sanders crowd was able to keep them out of the convention. Workman for his part had struck back, obtaining his own protective order against a competing politician only to see the County deputies and Tulsa police refuse to honor the protective order on the basis that the other guy was allowed into the convention and Workman was not.
As it turned out, four of the people running for Democrat Party Chairman have protective orders against each other.
Fun and games of the Democrat party but these same tactics will be used against others in politics. There are already cases of custody battles being won and visitation being eliminated due to false or unfounded protective orders being handed out like M & M's.
